Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Needs Assessment

This Maternal, Infant and Early Chilhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Needs Assessment report provides data and information for inclusion in a comprehensive statewide Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Program Needs Assessment Update (referred to as the “Needs Assessment Update”). The Needs Assessment Update is required under section 50601 of the federal Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018 (Pub. L. 115-123) and as a condition of receiving MIECHV and Title V Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services Block Grant funding beginning in 2021.

The purpose of this report is twofold, to: (1) provide a current landscape of Ohio’s home visiting programs and (2) inform the provision of home visiting services across the state, with a focus on Ohio’s most at-risk communities.

Explore DCY Data

  • Ohio Infant Mortality Scorecard Dashboard — The Ohio Infant Mortality Dashboard contains preliminary estimates of infant mortality and factors contributing to infant mortality (e.g., prematurity, low birth weight). The estimates displayed are 12-month periods that overlap by three months.
  • Interactive Children Services Dashboard — This resource displays seven different interactive dashboards related to children services data. Each of the dashboard reports allow users to manipulate data using predetermined filters within the dashboard. The reports provide views of statewide or county specific visualizations.

DCY Annual Dashboard

DCY is committed to transparency and accountability. One way the department will fulfill these commitments is by sharing data with families, partners, and providers. This dashboard provides annual data for many of the programs that have transitioned to DCY. These indicators help explain the reach of DCY programs over the course of a year as well as quantifying some of the challenges facing Ohio families. While not every DCY program is represented on the dashboard, we will explore opportunities to share data about other DCY programs in the future.

The dashboard will be updated annually. You can also view a downloadable version of the dashboard.

Agency Logic Model

In Spring 2024, DCY released its logic model with short-term goals the Department would focus on during the upcoming state fiscal year (July 2024-June 2025). These short-term goals are tied to the Department's focus on reducing infant mortality, increasing the number of children demonstrating kindergarten readiness, and reducing the number of children entering foster care. Data are updated monthly. The "expected" numbers assume even growth across 12 months from the baseline number. Baseline data are described in greater detail on the second page of the update file.
